What prospects do you envision for the industrial automation market, both nationally and globally?
The demand for industrial automation is growing exponentially. The global market for industrial automation is expected to grow to 200 billion US dollars by 2025-26 and India’s share may grow to 10 billion US dollars.

What has Delta’s role been in the industrial automation sector?
Delta is a key player in industrial automation and is well known for bringing in innovative and eco-friendly solutions. Our equipment is energy efficient and collaborative, creating a database of real time production information for the customer.

What are the various products and solutions catering to the industrial automation domain in India?
We have AC Drives in large, medium and small power drives which are energy-efficient and provide better efficiency in production. We have Robotics, motion controls, Servo, CNC, Programmable Logic Controllers, Human interface and SCADA. We also have electric actuators and gearboxes. We will soon have the I4 and I5 motors as well.

What product response do you envisage of CNC controllers, and what automation solutions do you have for the machine tool industry?
Delta is one of the top 5 producers of CNC controllers in India in a fast growing market. We offer engraving and milling machines, gantry milling machines, machining centres and highspeed tapping machines with integrated CAD/CAM solutions, Servo Motors and Servo Drives. Our CNC has advanced from metal cutting to metal forming, plastic forming and aluminium forming.

What is Delta’s investment in manufacturing facilities and R&D in the infrastructure segment?
We have 3 manufacturing facilities in India and have invested heavily in an upcoming plant. Delta spends close to 5 percent of its revenue in R&D in Industrial Automation every year. Delta Taiwan is our biggest R&D centre and we are expanding our R&D facilities in India.

What is the status update of the implementation of smart manufacturing relevant to Industry 4.0 in your manufacturing processes?
At Delta, we have a lot of automated lines in our plants. We have the hardware and software to convert a conventional machine to be Industry 4.0 compliant.

What were the challenges faced by Delta during the pandemic period and what measures have been adopted for transition to pre-pandemic level of business?
As leaders in automation our manufacturing plants were prepared but some of our key components were stuck in China. Also, our engineers could not reach our customers to service machines. But true to our spirit of innovation we conducted extensive training online for Delta customers like machine handling training, programming training, etc. We took the machine online and commissioned it. The sales of our controllers have increased.

What are the opportunities available for automation in the industry?
Automated lines, robots and energy efficiency are a major opportunity. A completely integrated CNC solution is also a high growth market.

What strategies benefit your organisation to be at a competitive edge over competitors in the same line of business activities?
We provide cost-effective solutions with global quality. Delta is a service oriented company and we provide great after sales service. Our AMC cost is less and we provide additional warranty.

What are the new and exciting updates at Delta? & What are your future plans?
We will be manufacturing most of our products in India under the Make in India initiative, including Semiconductors. We will be launching a second generation advanced EtherCAT controller by 2023. We are also looking to convert all our different software into one Operating System.
