In an interview with OEM Update, Manish Walia, Business Head, Industrial Automation Solutions, Delta Electronics India, explains how digitisation is going to benefit industry in reaching the goals of achieving contribution of manufacturing sector to the country’s GDP to 25 percent by 2025.

Government aims to increase the share of the manufacturing sector to country’s GDP to 25percent by 2025. What will be your sectors contribution in the same?

India is on the pathway to emerge as a global manufacturing hub with the sector estimated to reach US $1 trillion by 2025. Under the Make in India initiative, the Government aims to increase the share of the manufacturing sector to the country’s GDP to 25 percent by 2025.

In order to take the advantage of the opportunity, manufacturing sector is required to not just play a significant but a leading role. This can be preceded by modernising the manufacturing process and facilities. Integration of smart technologies and solutions is essential for precision, better quality, innovative ways of human and machine interaction and better safety. This will also support in reducing the productivity time, failures and defects as well as providing enhanced data that can be analysed to achieve optimum efficiency and a higher product quality at a reduced price. Industry 4.0 and IoT are the ways ahead that can help the industry achieve these goals where Industrial automation infrastructure will play a significant role in enabling this transition.

At Delta Electronics India, our focus is to provide a complete range of solutions that can deliver the industry’s best technology to support the growing ecosystem. To become a smart factory companies require flexible systems that communicate independently with each other. At Delta Industrial Automation Solutions, we implement our expertise in smart production line and integrate our automation products, equipment networking, system software, IoT technology, and big data analysis to build innovative and reliable automation solutions with a vision of #DeltaPoweringGreenAutomation.

With increased reliance on digitisation, which automation technologies have emerged enormously in driving your sector’s growth?

Digitisation is a natural evolution of automation infrastructure, and it is supporting to explore the real value of manufacturing assets in the process of industry. This will help in enabling efficient data governance, information availability and ease of use which will ensure better efficiency and optimisation of the process in the manufacturing industry. The rising trends of internet penetration and digitisation is due to increasing focus of various industries towards efficiency and cost-efficient production which are boosting the growth in Industry 4.0. Going ahead, concepts such as IoT, AI and digitalisation will become more relevant and define the new way of working.

At #DeltaIndustrialAutomationSolutions, we understand this shifting paradigm and offer products and solutions that support these changing trends of the industry, and showcase our vision to develop what is sustainable. Delta offers a comprehensive portfolio in machine, factory and process automation. We offer a product range which includes AC Motor Drives, Servo and Motion Control Systems, CNC Controllers, Hybrid Energy Saving Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interfaces, Machine Vision Systems, Meters and Sensors, Industrial and Medical Power Supplies, Power Quality Products, Industrial Ethernet Solutions, Industrial Control and Monitoring Software, and Industrial Robots.

Our Industrial Automation Solutions extend to a broad range of industry applications like Electronics, Elevators, Textiles, Food & Beverages, Pharma, Rubber & Plastics, Packaging, Printing, Woodworking, Automotive, Environment & Water Treatment, Metal Processing & Machine Tools to name a few.

Automated technologies are widely adopted by almost every industry, including MSMEs. Do you see democratisation of automation as a reality in the near future?

As the world lead towards a post-pandemic environment, industries are adopting business transformation using new-age technologies. Businesses and industries are reshaping strategies that can integrate the current scenario’s learning as they thrive towards the new normal. Now more than ever, innovation-driven technology is becoming essential for devising and executing novel ways that can bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Implementation of IoT solutions is gaining traction as technology is increasingly becoming the mainstream. As per the reports, 50 percent of the enterprise will have IoT enabled solutions by 2024. The technology is disrupting businesses and industries by creating new opportunities by collecting data and analysing them.

At Delta Industrial Automation Solutions, we offer products that are IoT and Industry 4.0 compliant. Our portfolio includes #PLC,#HMI, IPC, #PPC, Dialink, smart sensors, form factor supporting the IoT infrastructure. However, adoption of these technologies is currently at nascent stages, where the customers are still exploring its benefits and how they can proceed with its integrations.

At Delta, we have technologies and solutions which are ahead of the future and ready to be upgraded depending on landscape of changing business needs. By implementing expertise in a smart production line, Delta realised that smart manufacturing is customised as well as mass production; to put intelligence into production and let manufacturing respond to human nature.

Can India become a ‘plus one’ destination by cutting down its dependency on imports?

The government is working on multiple fronts to position India as a global manufacturing hub; one such initiative is expanding the PLI scheme to more sectors that will boost local manufacturing. With Make in India initiative, the plan is not only to reduce the reliance on imports but also to focus on India’s manufacturing strength for a deeper integration into the global value chain and become a leading exporter globally.

The initiative will encourage local manufacturing that will involve strong R&D and innovative technologies supporting the transformation of manufacturing industries. For India to become a global manufacturing hub, the industries and businesses have to enhance their competitiveness for which it is essential to produce cost-efficient, high-quality products where industrial automation solutions can offer generous support in transforming the industries.

At Delta, the focus is to constantly develop and enhance processes supporting the growing market expectations and innovate applications that can strengthen the Industrial Automation Infrastructure. We have a strong local network to ensure that we are there to support the various demands catering to industrial automation solutions.

In our endeavor to be a strong catalyst in India ‘s growth story, we are partnering with various GOI’s initiative like “E-Mobility Mission,” “Smart Cities Mission,” “Vocal for Local,” and “Make in India” as we lead with our vision of #DeltaPoweringGreenIndia. Our manufacturing plants in Gurgaon and Hosur is our testimony of commitment strengthening the industry ecosystem. At our Hosur plant, we are manufacturing AC Motor Drive and more supporting the nation’s journey towards #SelfReliantIndia with #VocalForLocal vision. Further, with our upcoming plant in Krishnagiri, more products will be added to localise the production and export, reinforcing the company’s contribution towards #MakeInIndia initiative.

Apart from automation and IoT, what can be the next big thing in transforming the manufacturing sector?

With rising commitment and awareness towards environment the industries and business are exploring smart green factories solutions. ‘Green” has been a catchphrase for businesses, industries and policymakers to showcase their commitment towards preserving the environment by integrating technologies and solutions that can help in saving the environment.

At Delta we believe that leading towards smart green factory, the emphasis will be on energy saving solutions, which can enhance factory system operation and equipment efficiency, optimise power efficiency and achieve energy saving and management strategy for equipment, system, and operation. Smart green factories can result in enhanced product competitiveness, minimise downtime, and reduced risk. Here Delta AC Motor Drive system solutions have a key role to play, which can support businesses to lead toward energy efficiencies and cost optimisation.

To become a global manufacturing hub, Indian industries and businesses must enhance their competitiveness by creating cost-effective and high-quality products.
