Delta Smart Monitoring & Control Solution Advances Carbon Capture Technology to Help Reduce Industrial Carbon Emissions

Attaining Net-Zero emissions by 2050 has become a shared goal around the world to address the intensifying climate change. This megatrend is driving governments to establish carbon emission and carbon tax policies. More and more companies are investing in new technologies and developing efficient carbon reduction solutions, making positive contributions and taking key actions to combat the climate crisis.

Measures to reduce carbon reduction encompass renewable energy use, electrification, carbon capture and storage, circular economy, and more. Among these, carbon capture is a technology that reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and is widely applied in hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, steel, and chemicals. The core of this technology is to capture CO2 from industrial sources, store it deep underground, or use it for other purposes, thereby preventing CO2 from releasing into the atmosphere and exacerbating global warming.

Leveraging its robust R&D capabilities in the industrial automation field, Delta has recently partnered with authorized distributor USE Electronics to assist Taiwanese carbon capture company Violon Biotech in refining its carbon capture system. The CO2 emissions collected from smokestacks are cooled and washed with water, removing up to 95% particulate matter. The three-stage washing process of the alkaline solvent washing tower significantly reduces the CO2 concentration. Violon's patented carbon capture technology has now reached industrial-scale production, and the by-products generated from captured CO2 can be further used in agriculture and aquaculture.

Violon Biotech's carbon capture system integrates Delta's Smart Monitoring & Control Solution, utilizing the SCADA System VTSada as the host of the information layer. VTScada collects real-time data from various subsystems, such as the washing tower and CO2 conversion tanks, and stores the data in the Historian database for further big data analytics. This optimizes the automation parameters of the equipment to enhance efficiency. At the control and device level, the Compact Modular Mid-Range PLC AS Series controls each subsystem, achieving distributed control performance. Coupled with the HMI DOP-100 Series, it enables real-time operations of the equipment. The solution also employs the Standard Compact Drive MS300 Series to control speed and adjust spraying methods in real-time, enhancing carbon capture efficiency. Additionally, the Smart Power Meter DPM Series collects energy consumption data from various subsystems, precisely measures electrical parameters, and detects energy consumption anomalies, achieving power monitoring and energy management.

Delta’s Smart Monitoring & Control Solution offers the following benefits:

  • Fully integrated architecture ensures stable and reliable quality
The carbon capture system adopts Delta's outstanding, high-performance industrial automation products, and features a comprehensive architecture and unified communication protocols for quick, seamless implementation.

  • The powerful VTScada provides thorough information
VTScada offers a visualized management interface with alarms, reports, and trend graphs, enabling remote monitoring and system management. This effectively helps establish a small monitoring and control center within the factory.

  • High-speed networking transmits data commands accurately
